Rentthisland.com Receives Innovation Award

4 November '13

Rentthisland.com is honoured to receive recognition for innovation in agriculture. Rentthisland.com was recently recognized as a regional recipient of the Ontario Premier's Award for Agri-Food Innovation Excellence. This award was established to recognize “innovations that improve existing products, create jobs and drive economic growth.”
From the start, Rentthisland.com’s goal was to offer an innovative website for Canadian farmers and landowners. Nearly two years ago, Ontario farmer, Kevin Veurink, thought of the idea behind Rentthisland.com. He recognized that numerous problems with the farmland rental were without an available solution. And then it clicked – a website could solve these problems. It was astonishing that there was no website at the time that exclusively addressed these issues. Kevin and his brother, Andrew, knew first-hand that renting agricultural land was a critical aspect of the farming business. They also know there were many challenges when it came to connecting landowners and farm operators. Along with their farm families, the Veurink Brothers worked to create a website to make farm land leasing and the rental easier, and add value to the process.
Since that time, with the help of industry experts, Rentthisland.com has evolved into a full service website that provides landowners and farm operators with the online and offline tools needed to connect with one another. In an agricultural economy being impacted by rising land prices, an aging workforce, and fewer operations, Rentthisland.com takes advantage of available technologies to make the difficult jobs of the farmer and landowner that much easier. The website helps cultivate land rental matches, allowing farmers to expand their operations without the time and hassle of conventional approaches to leasing farm land. Rentthisland.com strategically addresses many of the barriers that already exist in Canadian agriculture, by leveraging the speed and efficiency of the Internet, developing a central hub for land listings, leasing, and hosting a simple, effective matchmaking service for landowners and farm operators who are looking for farm land for lease.
Innovating farmland rental is no easy feat, which is why it’s a privilege to be recognized with this award.
